Painted Bunting - Splashy Little Miracle

Some birds pose like royalty... and some show up looking like they've just wrestled a rainbow.

This Painted Bunting had just splashed in the cool water of a spring - feathers tousled, colors wild and dripping, looking like a tiny inkwell that joyfully exploded.

I happily took this picture in the Texas Hill Country near Junction, Texas. A bright, impossibly charming little bird that reminds us that beauty sometimes shows up in the most delightfully imperfect ways.
